About Us
About New York LLCs
We’re New Yorkers, so we’ll keep it short.
We love the City. We love the fall colors Upstate. And we love rattling off rapid-fire directions to terrified tourists in a filthy subway station. It’s in our blood.
What we don’t love? Red tape. And New York is infamous for it.
We watched as our friends tried to start businesses and ran into all sorts of snags. In fact, we experienced it ourselves, running into expensive hoops like the New York publication requirement.
The bureaucratic slog didn’t exactly surprise us – New York is one of the most heavily regulated places in the country, if not the world. And yet, we kept wondering: is there a way to make starting a business in New York cheaper, faster, and, well, easier?
If we could find the answer to that question, we’d know the kind of company we wanted to be. So we put our heads together and hashed it out. When the dust settled over the empty takeout boxes, this is what was scrawled on our napkins.
We Handle New York and New York Only
There’s nothing worse than when the guy in front of you at the bodega tries to make small talk with the cashier. Come on, no one wants to hear about how your day is going. Tourists think we’re rude. We think we’re efficient.
We think you should be able to bring your unflappable New York speed and efficiency to the process of starting a business. So we got an office catty-corner from the NY Secretary of State’s office. In fact, it’s only 942 steps away. Rather than wait on the postal service to deliver your documents, we send over our intern. Even if the sleet is coming down sideways. It’s good character-building.
As your registered agent, we don’t let documents pile up on our desks, collecting dust. As soon as legal mail comes through the door, we’re on it. We scan it and upload it to your encrypted personal online account. We send you a notification so you can read your mail. And we file away the original, just in case you ever need it.
How are we so fast? We’re not a big, sluggish national company that has to take care of clients in fly-over country. We handle New York and New York only.
Have you ever signed up for a subscription or service because of a super sweet introductory price? Maybe you made a mental note to cancel the service before the “introductory price” doubled or tripled into the real price. Maybe you forgot to cancel and didn’t notice for a few months while automated payments slipped out of your bank account. Maybe you gave up and accepted the higher price because the company made it too complicated to cancel.
Sneaky pricing makes our skin crawl. So we decided on one simple, upfront price. It doesn’t change—not by the time you get to check out and not five years from now when your business is going gangbusters. It’s even easy to remember: we charge $100 to form your New York LLC and $49/year for Registered Agent Service—forever.
Service | Fee |
---|---|
New York State Filing Fee | $200 |
Our LLC Formation Service Fee | $100 |
One Year Registered Agent Service | $49 |
Total | $349 |
What’s more? We don’t make up the difference by selling your data (like most of our competitors do).
When we first heard that new LLCs in New York had to publish a notice of registration in the local newspapers, it didn’t seem like a huge deal. Outdated? Yes. Annoying? Ridiculously so. But how hard could it be?
Once we dug deeper, we discovered how truly arcane (and expensive) the New York publication requirement really was. For one, you have to publish in two newspapers (a daily and a weekly) for six weeks. That’s a total of 48 times. Plus, you have to publish in the county where you have an “office,” which means you can’t pay some eccentric geezer in the Catskills 10 bucks to print your notice in his newsletter. If you’re somewhere with exorbitant publishing fees (NYC, we’re looking at you), you could be shelling out upwards of $1,500—before you even truly get started.
We realized that if we wanted to help our clients save a big chunk of money, we had to figure this one out. So we did. Hire us to form your LLC or be your New York Registered Agent, and you have an office in Albany. You can list our office address as your business address, which will allow you to meet the publication requirement in Albany County for a total of $200.
